TOGETHER ON THE WAY TO BECOMING EUROPE’S NUMBER ONE

In every case, achieving commercial success depends on a number of factors – and the ability to draw on experienced partners with a strong network is one of these. As a multinational DIY retailer, OBI relies on the support of OBI Group Sourcing GmbH in its efforts to become Europe’s first port of call for the home and garden sector. In our role at OBI Group Sourcing GmbH, we manage and coordinate global procurement, ensure quality and coordinate the flow of goods for more than 32,000 products from the entire DIY segment.

SUCCESS THANKS TO INTERNATIONAL SOURCING EXPERTISE

Forming part of the global OBI Group, OBI Group Sourcing GmbH combines the fundamental factors required by every successful sourcing company: long-standing experience and a multinational scale. Created from the merger between the former Emil Lux GmbH – whose company history goes back more than 100 years – and Euromate GmbH, we have a joint global sourcing network, subsidiaries in Hong Kong and Shanghai, plus an office in Ho Chi Minh City. With these attributes, we are responsible for the global sourcing of numerous DIY product ranges spanning the entire home and garden spectrum.

KEY PLAYER IN THE OBI GROUP

OBI employs around 40,000 people worldwide, who work hard to ensure that more than 250 million customers across Europe are able to design their own homes according to their specific requirements and abilities – year in, year out. OBI Group Sourcing GmbH is the central point of control for procuring and distributing goods, as well as assuring quality in purchasing activities. By ensuring that DIY products are readily available in their full range whenever they are needed, it secures OBI’s private label strategy and defines the product ranges provided under the LUX-TOOLS, Jamestown Grill and baliv labels.

OBI GROUP

In addition to its German domestic market, OBI is one of Europe’s leading DIY retailers and operates stationary stores in nine other countries: Italy, Slovenia, Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Switzerland. Founded in 1970, the company is managed from the central Store Support Center in Wermelskirchen, Germany, which is also home to the headquarters of OBI Group Sourcing GmbH, a merger of Emil Lux GmbH and Euromate GmbH.

STATIONARY STORES

When OBI opened its very first hardware store in the Poppenbüttel area of Hamburg back in 1970, company founders Emil Lux and Manfred Maus laid the foundations for a proverbial do-it-yourself success story – and what’s more, launched a completely new industry in Germany. OBI now operates more than 640 stationary stores throughout Europe, carrying a range of 40,000 to 60,000 items on average. Over more than five decades of its company history, OBI has relied on a strategic mix of its own stores and sites operated by franchise partners. It also counts on the sourcing expertise of OBI Group Sourcing GmbH.

E-COMMERCE

OBI Group Sourcing GmbH is responsible for ensuring that goods are not only available in over 640 stationary OBI stores across Europe, but also consistently meet high quality standards. Additionally, it supplements the portfolio provided through OBI online stores and the digital customer platform heyOBI. Forging an ambitious path towards becoming Europe’s first port of call for the home and garden sector, OBI is increasingly focused on an omnichannel strategy that is supported by OBI Group Sourcing GmbH’s reliable product sourcing.
